Placing Baby for Adoption with Same Sex Couple
Placing Baby for Adoption with Same Sex Couple
A Baby Step Adoption is a LGBTQ+ friendly adoption agency. We have ALWAYS supported adoption by the gay community and have been a pioneer in LGBTQ+ adoptions.
A Baby Step Adoption has the proud distinction of being recognized as a Solid Foundation for Inclusion by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for their All Children – All Families project to improve the services they provide to the LGBTQ+ community, including children in foster care and prospective foster and adoptive parents. A Baby Step Adoption was able to receive this honor by conducting an internal self-assessment, providing professional development to staff and implementing ACAF’s “Benchmarks of LGBTQ Inclusion,” which track policy and practice changes within agencies..
Why Choose LGBTQ+ Adoption?
Choosing a same sex couple to adopt your baby can be an incredible blessing to your child and to the family who adopts them. We do not discriminate based on sexual preference or gender identity. If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy and considering adoption as an option, we can tell you from years of experience that selecting a family who identifies as LGBTQ+ is an asset in so many ways for your child.
The process for LGBTQ+ families is exactly the same as for a heterosexual couple adoption or a single person adopting a child. All of our Waiting Families have gone through a screening process including a home study. As the woman choosing adoption, you can get to choose the family your child is raised by, and for many women, it is incredibly fulfilling to choose a same sex couple and allow that family to experience parenthood.
What are the Benefits of LGBTQ+ Adoption?
At A Baby Step Adoption, we work with adoptive families from all over the United States, and we believe that a child raised by LGBTQ+ families has a unique, positive perspective. There are many benefits to choosing a same-sex couple to adopt your baby.
Children who are raised in LGBTQ+ adoptive families may be more kind, compassionate and inclusive people. Knowing they are not raised in a “traditional” family, children who are raised in gay adoption families will know their family doesn’t necessarily look like a “traditional” family, but the differences will make them stronger people. Being taught early on that being different is an asset, not something to be ashamed of, can make a child confident and resilient.
Being a woman who chooses adoption often comes with the stigma that you “gave your baby up” for adoption. Some women feel judged by others who do not understand the selflessness of the decision to place your baby for adoption. The LGBTQ+ community understands judgment better than anyone, and experiencing this common feeling can be a source of shared compassion.
